During the school life he was kicked out from school for dealing with weapons and criminal activities along with some wrong crowed. Later on at the age of 18, he was under arrest and put in jail for a year and a half for involvement in a car theft racket. But once you have talent, prison should not be a barrier. Think all of you must be wondering – What kind of talent I’m talking about and who is this guy? Wait a while, let me carry on more.
During his imprisonment, he discovered his extraordinary musical skills and developed an admiration for his musical environment. Since then his journey began, writing songs mostly about prison life. Importantly he started to believe that his musical talent is the only way to leave his surroundings. When he was released he immediately began recording his music and sending out demo tapes. His unique blend of West African-style vocals and hip-hop lyricism eventually caught the ears of executives at Universal Records. Finally in June 2004, his album titled Trouble, was released. The album gained immediate popularity with its preceding single, “Locked Up,” a top 10 R&B hit. The second single, “Ghetto,” became another urban radio staple.
Hope, now you all have identified him – Yes, I’m talking about AKON.
